38th Annual Tuuri Day Conference
October 20, 2010 “Reducing Youth Violence: Resolving Conflicts and Promoting Healthy Skills” The Tuuri Day Conference is named in honor of Dr. Arthur L. Tuuri, President of Mott Children’s Health Center from 1948 to 1985. The Tuuri Day Conference began in 1973 under Dr. Tuuri’s leadership to bring in national and state experts to discuss a pertinent child health topic. Dr. Tuuri believed that an annual educational conference for professionals of many backgrounds and disciplines would allow child health issues to be addressed comprehensively, hopefully prompting more coordinated and enhanced systems of care. This year’s conference provides an interdisciplinary understanding of youth violence prevention. Topics include: the relationship between alcohol, drugs, and violence among adolescents; bullying prevention; teen dating violence; post-traumatic stress disorder in children, adolescent resiliency; abusive head trauma; preventing violence during recess; and reducing shootings and killings. This year’s keynote speakers include Tio Hardiman, Director for CeaseFire Illinois and Jeremy Lansing, the Playworks Program Community Training Manager. CEUs for education, social work, and nursing will be offered. A conference brochure will be posted soon. For more information or to register, please call (810) 767-5750 ext. 5299.
