Suicide is the 3rd ranking cause of death in the U.S.A. for young people 24 years old and less. Suicide deaths outnumber homicide deaths for young people between the ages of 15-24 in the U.S.A. Check this: If you are between the ages of 15-24, one of your peers kills him or herself every 2 hours and 3 minutes (2003 Statistic). That means in one day 11 of your peers commit suicide. So as you can see, the issue is serious or in other words no joke! This website "Suicide, No Joke" was developed by you for you. Our goal is to reach out to those who are in need, those who are at risk of suicide or know someone who is at risk of suicide. As one youth put it, to "open the door to life" is the purpose of this website. This will be that door entrance to the continual journey of life. If you are thinking about killing yourself get help. If you know of someone who is thinking about killing him or herself, get them help. Tomorrow is not the roll of the dice you want to take. Get help today for tomorrow could turn up snake eyes. |

The following educational teen suicide campaign is sponsored by Mott Children's Health Center's Behavioral Services Department. It is our conviction that education about this issue is the strongest prevention strategy we have available. These materials have been the result of hard work and lots of time from high school students from Flint and Beecher school districts, and the artistic talents of Teina Tallerigo. The title "Suicide, No Joke!" was named by students to stress the finality and seriousness of this issue. We hope that after viewing this important information, you will agree with us that TEEN SUICIDE IS PREVENTABLE, and all of us have a role in bringing this issue to light. |
